Personal pages: Sigitas Birgelis

Sigitas Birgelis (Sygit Birgiel in Polish), the Lithuanian poet and photographer living in Punskas, is an author of many books published in Poland and in Lithuania. His works contain the poetry: Between the shores (1992), Between the dust and the oblivion (1993), The poems of that side of God (1997), The seven days, the seven years (1998), 75 poems (1999), From far and from closeness (with L. Šimkutė, 2003), The hologram (2004). From 1995 Sigitas Birgelis is a member of Lithuanian Writers Society. His poems have been translated into Polish, Bielarussian, German and English.
Sigitas Birgelis is an author of poems` translations written by: M. Czajkowski: The Jerusalem tracks (1999), L. Šimkutė: From far and from closeness (2003), B. Jonuškaitė: The child with the grey eyes (2004), and he is one of the translators of S. Geda`s poetry: The Jotvingiai songs (2002).

For many years Sigitas Birgelis has been taking photos of the most important events of Lithuanians living in Poland. He has been taking photos of the sacred architecture and art, the roadside chapels and crosses, the places of interest in a region settled in by Polish Lithuanians. More than 1000 photos have been published in different magazines, textbooks and studies. The photos have been presented on the exhibitions in Poland and in Lithuania.’
