REFILE – ADDING CAPTION INFORMATION
Pope John Paul II observes a white dove released by children from the window of his private apartment at the end of the Sunday Angelus prayer at the Vatican in this January 30, 2005 file photo. The late Pope John Paul moved closer to sainthood in the Catholic Church on December 19, 2009 when his successor, Pope Benedict, approved a decree recognising that John Paul had lived the Christian faith heroically. Pope Benedict also moved his controversial wartime predecessor Pope Pius XII further along on the road to Roman Catholic sainthood.
